Job Description

Upper Albany Main Street is looking for an enthusiastic and organized Community Engagement Coordinator to support event planning and stakeholder collaboration efforts. This individual will play a key role in fostering relationships between small businesses, local residents, and city officials. The role centers around planning and executing events that are beneficial to the small business community.

This position is 100% grant-funded contingent upon annual renewal of external funding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a Small Business initiatives (i.e. expo), including outreach, logistics, vendor coordination, and marketing.
  • Ability to facilitate various community events, such as Small Business Expo, community conversation forums, and monthly design and merchant meetings that contribute to neighborhood revitalization and economic growth in Hartford’s North End.
  • Develop and distribute meeting agendas and coordinate guest speakers, including city officials, elected representatives, and business leaders.
  • Lead and manage the monthly Design Committee and Merchants Association meetings, ensuring timely communication, participation, and follow-up.
  • Serve as a liaison between Upper Albany Main Street, small business owners, and community stakeholders to ensure inclusive engagement and feedback loops.
  • Track event planning milestones, attendance, outcomes, and community feedback to measure impact and improve future events.
  • Assist in creating promotional materials and content for newsletters, flyers, and social media related to events and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a program related to Public Relations, Communications, Urban Studies, Political Science, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating with diverse groups including business owners, city officials, community members, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Canva or event management software is a plus (and ability to create a brand toolkit).
  • A passion for community development, small business growth, and civic engagement.
