Design Committee

The Design Committee provides an opportunity for community residents, merchants, and stakeholders to interface with state, regional, and local officials to offer feedback on the full-depth reconstruction of Albany Avenue, comprehensive streetscape, and on-street parking designs. Working in a designated historic district, the Design Committee advocates zoning and design standards concordant with the rich history of Upper Albany. The Design Committee convenes monthly meeting to organize officials involved in the Route 44 Safety Improvement Project and other projects that affect the commercial district. The Design Committee seeks to minimize disruption of commercial activities resulting from construction on the Route 44 Safety Improvement Project and the MDC Sewer Separation by keeping business owners informed on a regular basis.

Comprehensive Plan

Upper Albany Main Street’s Design initiatives seek to integrate information from community stakeholders, engineering and redevelopment partners, and our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database to develop a comprehensive plan for Upper Albany neighborhood development. UAMS encourages a safer, pedestrian-friendly, commercial district with distinctive streetscape and façade improvements that will enhance the commercial district. The comprehensive plan will feature major redevelopment projects, conceptual streetscape designs, and parking solutions to advance the revitalization of Upper Albany.

Route 44 Safety Improvement Project

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) has approved more than $13 Million for a full-depth reconstruction of Albany Avenue in the Upper Albany neighborhood under the Route 44 Safety Improvement Project for the 2007 Budget year.
