Upper Albany Main Street
…is an economic development, community revitalization organization based in the Upper Albany neighborhood of Hartford, CT. As a National Main Street Community Upper Albany Main Street (UAMS) is a catalyst for economic revitalization of the Albany Avenue commercial corridor. Established in 2000, our mission is,
“To preserve, revitalize, and support the commercial district of Upper Albany by working with residents, merchants, and stakeholders to create a neighborhood of choice.”
Upper Albany Main Street views economic development as the principal catalyst for improving the quality of life on Albany Avenue for all those who live, work and visit this historic and diverse neighborhood. As a mission-focused organization, UAMS is an economic development engine in Hartford working to improve the environment for small businesses, promote entrepreneurship, and establish Albany Avenue as a vibrant Afro-Caribbean neighborhood of destination.
Upper Albany Main Street (UAMS) is “the Avenue’s” leading community-business organization and it views economic development as the principal catalyst for improving the quality of life on the Avenue for all those who live, work and visit this historic and diverse neighborhood. The “central customer base” comprises the residents and business owners, but the “global customer base” is the broader community because Upper Albany is a gateway community, and its success will have a positive impact on the overall renaissance of the City. By capitalizing on the rich African American and West Indian heritage of our neighborhood, UAMS can develop Upper Albany into a “destination” that brings people who might not otherwise find an occasion to visit. Upper Albany Main Street will continue to seek the necessary resources to add value to each and every constituency that has a vested interest in our neighborhood.
